The kitchen is usually the trickiest room to pack - lots of fragile, heavy and awkward items. Follow this order for a safe, organised job.
Start Early, Finish Last
Pack rarely-used kitchen items first (extra crockery, appliances) and leave daily-use items for last. Unpack the kitchen first at the new home.
How to Pack Each Item
- Crockery & glass: wrap each piece in bubble wrap or paper, stack plates vertically in sturdy boxes
- Appliances: clean and dry, pack in original boxes where possible with padding
- Knives & sharp tools: wrap blades and label clearly
- Liquids & spices: seal lids, bag them to prevent leaks
Gas Cylinder Safety
Turn off and disconnect the cylinder and regulator. Cylinders must be transported upright and handled with care - tell your movers in advance so it is loaded safely and separately.
