For safety, legal and practical reasons, professional movers usually cannot transport certain items. Knowing this in advance avoids surprises on moving day.
Hazardous & Flammable Items
- Full gas cylinders, petrol, diesel and kerosene
- Fireworks, matches and aerosols
- Paints, thinners, chemicals and cleaning acids
Perishables & Plants
Cooked food, fresh groceries and perishables are not moved long distance. Live plants are often avoided on long routes as they may not survive - check with your mover.
Valuables & Personal Items
Carry jewellery, cash, important documents, medicines and laptops with you rather than loading them on the truck. This keeps them safe and within your control.
What to Do Instead
- Use up or give away perishables and opened liquids
- Empty and disconnect gas cylinders, or transfer the connection
- Keep valuables and documents in your personal bag
