What You'll Need
- Moving blankets
- Bubble wrap
- Stretch film
- Packing tape
- An appliance dolly
- Rope or straps
How to Pack a Fridge Step by Step
- Empty and defrost 24 hours before. Remove all food, unplug the fridge and let the freezer defrost completely. Drain and dry any water so it does not leak or grow mould in transit.
- Clean, dry and remove loose parts. Wipe the interior dry, then take out shelves, trays and drawers and wrap them separately so they do not rattle or crack.
- Secure the cable and doors. Coil the power cable and tape it to the back. Once wrapped, tape the doors shut over the blanket, never directly on the finish.
- Wrap the body. Cover the fridge in moving blankets, add bubble wrap on corners and the door, then wrap the whole unit in stretch film.
- Move it upright on a dolly. Strap the fridge to an appliance dolly and keep it vertical. Load and transport it standing upright, never on its side or back.
- Rest before switching on. After delivery, let the fridge stand upright for 3-6 hours (overnight for older models) before plugging in, so the compressor oil settles.
Pro Tips
- Never transport a fridge lying flat - it can damage the compressor.
- Defrost fully to prevent water damage and odour.
- Label the bag of shelves and trays for quick reassembly.
