What You'll Need
- Screwdrivers and allen keys
- Moving blankets
- Bubble wrap
- Corrugated sheets
- Stretch film
- Zip bags for screws
How to Pack Furniture Step by Step
- Dismantle what you can. Take apart bed frames, modular wardrobes and table legs. It saves space and prevents joints from cracking in transit.
- Bag and label fittings. Put screws, bolts and fittings for each item in a labelled zip bag and tape it to that piece of furniture.
- Protect glass and mirrors. Wrap glass tops and mirrors in bubble wrap, sandwich them between corrugated sheets and mark them "Fragile".
- Wrap soft furniture. Cover sofas and mattresses in stretch film and covers to keep out dust, moisture and tears.
- Pad hard surfaces and corners. Wrap polished wood in moving blankets and pad corners. Avoid taping directly onto polish or veneer.
- Load large and heavy first. Load wardrobes and sofas first, standing them on end where safe, so smaller boxes can be stacked around them.
Pro Tips
- Photograph assemblies before dismantling for easy reassembly.
- Keep each item's fittings attached to it.
- Lift furniture rather than dragging it to avoid damage.
